Timing is everything.
This young dad was throwing his kid gently up in the air, right in front of Lake Como at the Bellagio. The kid was looking around everywhere but my camera, as you can imagine. On the third throw, for whatever reason, the baby looked over at me and in that split second I pushed the shutter button: *SNAP* Picture perfection! Whatever came before and whatever comes after doesn’t matter when it comes to the world of photography. The only thing that matters is the present, what is happening right then at that exact moment, that moment when all the ducks are in a row and you snap that perfect pic. That quest for perfection and the perfect picture is why I love photography! For example, look at the other versions of this picture below... they both work, but they are both missing that magical connection that exists in the other version. That little spark is what makes the other one special. Taking pictures is like fishing. Many of the fish you catch are fine, they’ll get the job done, but every so often, when everything aligns, you finally catch the big one, the one that didn’t get away. To me, the picture above is one of those Big Fish. Who’s ready to go fishing with me? |
